MTG Combat question....?

If a creature that says "all creatures able to block equipped creature do so" and its a 1/1, and that creature attacks, will the 7 1/1's my opponent controls ALL block the creature i control? If they do what would happen? it seems really overpowered that one creature can keep all opposing creatures tied up for one turn...
